The Sunbury Air Cadets were kitted out in full pilots gear, issued with a standard survival pack before being thrown into a pool and taught how to survive in an RAF emergency raft.
The event, on August 9, was a thank-you after the cadets cleared out a field by the squadron headquarters in Sunbury.
Paul Humphreys, who works with the cadets, said: "The activity was not only a great source of fun for the cadets but also gave them a real-life insight into the type of training pilots and aircrew have to under-take, plus the added experience of spending a day on an RAF station."
IT was Kenneth Grahame who said in Wind in the Willows that there is nothing so pleasant as messing about by the river.

Spelthorne council have launched enforcement action against travellers who moved onto land in New Road at the beginning of July.
Two caravans moved onto the Shepperton site over the weekend of Saturday, July 3, and erected a 1.2 metre high fence around the land and added a thin later of tarmac to the ground.
The council have now launched proceedings, following a planning meeting on Wednesday, July 21, to have the travellers removed for planning reasons, as the tarmac, fence and caravans represent inappropriate development on green belt land.

Residents have handed a 285 strong petition to Spelthorne council asking for the removal of charges in one Sunbury car park amid serious safety concerns for the area.
On Thursday, July 22, a petition was submitted to the council seeking the removal of charges from the Orchard Meadow Car Park, in The Avenue.
Since charges for the car park were introduced by the council, in December, residents have noticed an increase in the number of cars parking in The Avenue, which they believe make the road crowded and unsafe for pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers.
