Paving stones pilfered

Villains stole at least 30 paving stones from a house in Vicarage Road, Sunbury.
The grey Yorkshire slabs were pinched sometime between 10.30pm on Sunday August 24 and 11am the following day from the front garden. Police believe a vehicle involved in the crime.

Man hurt in smash

A man, 59, was taken to St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey, with chest injuries after being involved in a road traffic accident in Manor Lane on Saturday August 23 at about 3.50pm.

Families' fury over brothel

redlight.jpgParents are fed up with opening their doors to prostitutes' punters in a block of flats in Sunbury.

They say a brothel is being run at one of the flats in Prince Albert Court in Staines Road West and neighbours say they have had enough of seedy men and women coming and going throughout the night.

The three-storey block is home to families with young children and residents say prostitutes using the flat are even advertising their services on the internet.

Head teacher Louise Duncan was beaming after 72% of her students attained five or more A*-C grades.

She said: "We knew from the way the students worked in the lead up to the exams and from their attitude and behaviour that we were looking at something very special this year. They really are a credit to themselves, their families and the school."

Students at St Paul's Catholic College in Sunbury could be the "most improved school in Surrey" according to head teacher Simon Uttley.

He said: "We are delighted with a 20% increase in our GCSE performance in one year - possibly placing us as the most improved school in the County. St Paul's have achieved 71% 5 A*-C with many fabulous individual performances."

groveley-rec.jpgGroveley Road Recreation Ground in Sunbury Common is the latest in a long line of parks to get a brand new play area.

The new equipment, designed and built by Kompan UK caters for children up to 14. The equipment chosen for the park is designed to be sustainable and recycled materials are used where possible.

There are all different types of swings as well as a basket swing where a group of children can play together.

Sports taster sessions

Free sports taster sessions will be available at Sunbury Leisure Centre on Sunday (24) to celebrate the Olympic handover from Beijing to London.

Residents will be able to try a range of sports including trampolining, fencing, basketball and swimming at the Nursery Road centre between 10am-6pm.

Shop appeals against alcohol ban

The owner of Peregrine Stores in Sunbury has appealed against a Spelthorne Council decision revoke his licence to sell alcohol.

The store in Peregrine Road, Sunbury had its licence withdrawn in June but owner Peram Yasotharan's appeal process began at Staines Magistrates Court on Wednesday August 6.

regattakids.jpgYoungsters taking part in this weekend's Sunbury Regatta have only one boat to practice in after theives stole one of a matched pair.

Thieves smashed open padlocks and stole the boat from the Island HQ, leaving children with a long wait for their turn in a boat.
