New play area at Groveley Road rec

Groveley-park-opening-3.jpgGroveley Road Recreation Ground in Sunbury Common is the latest in a long line of parks to get a brand new play area.

The new equipment, designed and built by Kompan UK caters for children up to 14. There are different swings as well as a basket swing where a group of children can play together. The playground also has a Supernova, a slanting disc roundabout, popular with children everywhere.

The playground also features a Storymaker unit. This has a house on one side and on the other side is a fire engine. With its slide and fireman's pole, the unit provides an excellent opportunity for tomorrow's firefighters to get involved.

The playground will be officially opened by the Council's Portfolio Holder for Young People and Cultural Services.

Councillor Grant commented: "The new equipment has contributed to making this an attractive place for children to play during the summer months. The fact that sustainable materials have been used is an added bonus".

Posts in the equipment contain 30% recycled steel, the laminate panels contain as much as 70% recycled material. In addition, the equipment is free of PVC. There is a minimum amount of paint used in the manufacture of the equipment, solid coloured materials being used instead.

We'd like to hear from you.

Have they put a damper on the heavy steel gate of the equipment area ?.
Have they corrected the bolt on the gate which jams because it is not properly alinged ?.
The gate was, and probably still is, dangerous and children have been hurt.
The council have been informed long ago of these defects.
I bet they have still not been fixed.
Fixing them would not provide a photo opportunity so the safety of children gets ignored.

I was wrong the council have tried to fix the gate and made a mess of it.
A damper has been fitted which makes the gate rather hard to open.
Possibly because of this the gate post is now loose and the first section of fence sways to and fro when the gate is moved.
As a result the gate bolt and it's keeper no longer line up at all when the damper shuts the gate.
Surely the Council's Portfolio Holder for Young People and Cultural Services saw this problem when posing for yet another photo opportunity.
Are the men in the picture Surrey Firemen ?.
If so were they on paid duty ?.
If so their vehicle would be several hundred yards away and their response to any call delayed.
If so an inappropriate use of County Council resources by Spelthorne Council.
Have too many Firemen in Surrey ?

G.Virr said:

As per usual no response from Spelthorne Council or any councillor, not even the councillor most intimately involved with the purchase and installation of unsuitable, high maintenance, playground equipment.
And still, over four months later, no action has been taken to carry out the necessary work on the defective gate and loose fence.
