A fatal crash is "certain to happen" in a Sunbury business park because "lethargic" road chiefs refuse to re-paint lines on dangerous traffic junction.

That's the view of furious firms on the Brooklands Industrial Estate, Brooklands Close, who say Surrey County Council has failed to take action, despite email assurance nearly three months ago.

The Spelthorne Junior School choir performed Christmas carols for BP staff at the oil giant's Sunbury headquarters.

Their visit was made as part of a link-up with the company, which for the last two years has sent volunteers to the school to help children with reading.

Sunbury Manor School has been forced to close until next month after more than 70 pupils became infected with norovirus, otherwise known as winter vomiting disease.

Head teacher Louise Duncan said problems became apparent on Friday December 5, when several children reported they felt sick. On Monday (8) the situation worsened significantly and by Wednesday (10), 20 children per day were being sent home forcing the decision, following consultation with health authorities, to close on Friday (12).

Youths launch anti-knife campaign

Street-savvy youths from Spelthorne signed a petition pledging not to carry knives and presented it to Spelthorne MP, David Wilshire, at the House of Commons last week.

More than 5,000 young people signed the petition, 'Knives Wreck Lives' - organised by the Spelthorne Youth Council - which launched on October 27 and presented their pledges to their local MP on Tuesday, December 9.

Herald & News readers have been touched by the poignant story of Melissa Huggins, the beautiful 27-year-old Staines teacher who needs to raise nearly £200,000 for lifesaving cancer treatment.

Melissa, a teacher at St Ignatius Primary School in Lower Sunbury, has an aggressive, fast-spreading brain tumour and the only treatment that can save her is proton radiotherapy - a highly expensive cure only available in America.

Zoe, representing Sunbury Manor School and Sam, representing Spelthorne Junior School have both won through this event for the last three years running.

Spelthorne Council is set to spend £100,000 on valuation and condition surveys of all the land and buildings it owns.

Approximately £70,000-80,000 has been earmarked by council officers for the condition survey to help decide what work needs doing and between £20,000-30,000 has been set aside to ascertain the rental value of council properties.

Firefighters rescued two adults who were stuck in a lift in a block of flats in Hanworth Road, Sunbury, on Monday (8) at about 9.40pm.

Police have made patrolling Thames Street in Lower Sunbury a priority in a bid to stamp out overweight lorries using the route.

Officers have warned they will issue fixed penalty notices to any driver that breaks the 7.5 tonne restriction.

St Paul's Catholic College, Sunbury, students learned how to eat and cook healthily when a charity food bus rolled into Spelthorne for the first time.

The school is the first in south east England to sign up for the Food for Life project, a scheme run by charity Focus on Food.

It aims to teach kids the value of eating healthily, where to source their food, how to cook it and the technology behind food production.
