Star sees horse win

CHELSEA's Peruvian international striker Claudio Pizarro paid another visit to Kempton Park last week to again watch his horse, Audemar, in action and this time enjoyed victory.

The 30-year-old, who is looking to seal a move away from Stamford Bridge due to his lack of first team action, had visited the Staines Road East, Sunbury, track the previous week, where the colt finished fourth.

APPARENTLY racing chiefs want to attract younger men to the tracks, as they seek to move the sport away from it's traditional, stuffy image.

If so, they should get in touch with Kempton Park MD, who may just have found the answer.

Hero hubby delivers tot

A hero husband came to the rescue and delivered his wife's baby after the midwife got stuck in traffic.

Mark Owen, of Burgoyne Road, Sunbury, was thrust into action after wife Lucy, 38, unexpectedly went into labour at their home last Wednesday afternoon.

Greet Dunkirk vets

Greet the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships as they make their annual trip down the river on Sunday, September 13. They set off from Kingston at 10am and finish at the Weybridge Mariners Club, Shepperton Lock Island, at 1pm. More information from 07515 026 970.

It should have been a day of excitement and joy, as it meant she was just a year away from realising her ambition of receiving 100th birthday greetings from the Queen.

But for Ann Huggins, her 99th birthday was completely overshadowed by the upheaval caused by the impending closure to her sheltered housing flat, at Sunna Lodge, Sunbury.

Regatta hailed

A freak act of nature nearly scuppered it but, not only did Sunbury Regatta go ahead, organisers are hailing it as one of the most successful events for years.

After a tree collapsed onto a vital bridge just days before, the Rivermead Island extravaganza was in serious danger of being cancelled.

ST-peaks.JPGFOUR Sunbury-based firefighters took on the gruelling challenge of climbing The Three Peaks in just 24 hours.

Lee Bragg, Tim Jones, Kerrie Gilling and Jez Spencer came ninth out of 80 teams and achieved a gold medal standard time of 18 hours, comprising seven hours climbing and 11 driving.

Lunatic on rampage in shop

Terrified shoppers cowered in the aisles at Tesco in Sunbury as a man threatened to go on the rampage with a knife.

The man, 40, who has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, is thought have refused to have paid for alcohol and then gone beserk after staff confronted him.
